Board Certified Cosmetic Laser Surgeon Serving Reston, D.C., Tysons Corner, Ashburn, Virginia.

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea (say "roh-ZAY-shuh") is a very common skin disease that affects people over the age of 30, and is usually poorly understood. It causes redness on your nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead. Some people get little bumps and pimples on the red parts of their faces. Rosacea can also cause burning and soreness in your eyes. According to statistics this skin condition has affected an estimated 16 million people living in America. The sad part is, most don't know they actually have it. According to the National Rosacea Society - 95% of Rosacea patients, before their diagnosis, didn't know about this condition.

What are the emotional effects of Rosacea?

Some people say that having this condition keeps them from feeling confident at work or in social situations. According to statistics more than 90% of individuals with this skin conditioned said it had lowered their self esteem. In addition to that, 51% report missing work because of their insecurities with this condition making it sometimes debilitating.

Photodynamic Therapy for Rosacea

At WellMedica Aesthetic and Anti-Aging Medicine we provide Photodynamic Therapy for Rosacea in order to treat this inflammation and redness. Photodynamic therapy can also be use for other skin conditions as well. Photodynamic Therapy also known as ALA (PDT), is a treatment performed with a typical photo-sensitizing agent called  Levulan ( 5- aminolevulinic acid or ALA) that is applied to your skin and then activated with the correct wavelength of light.

After PDT treatments, the overall texture of the skin improves, and skin that inflamed, heals. PDT also helps post-inflammatory erythema and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (the red and brown marks that stick around after active acne lesions disappear).

Cautions: It is important to avoid sun coverage within 48 time after your PDT treatment.

“Dr. Ali is not only a beautiful, highly intelligent woman but also an amazing healer. She treated my face, ravaged over time byrosacea, coupled with multiple broken facial blood vessels and transformed what was ruddy, red and sometimes purple hued skin into a clearcomplexioned healthy and totally makeup free face, and I thank her most graciously.” *

“I think Dr. Ali is very honest and upfront. I didn’t feel I had to get 10 opinions before making a decision. I never feel pressured. Everyone is professional and top notch, the type of people you want to work with. I think the whole office atmosphere is wonderful, I feel friendly with everyone that works there and I love the products. When you don’t come often you feel guilty. It’s usually a family affair to come see Dr. Ali; it’s me, my daughter and granddaughter, it’s a 2 hour drive so we make a day of it.” *
