Microblading Eyebrows

Board Certified Cosmetic Laser Surgeon Serving Reston, D.C., Tysons Corner, Ashburn, Virginia.

Arguably eyebrows are the most important facial feature. Depending on what style you want they can completely change the look of your face.  On the market today there are so many different ways to change how your eyebrows look… from brow pencils, gel, and even tattooing there are infinite options. However, the latest option to hit the market today is NATURAL and delivers semi-permanent results.  It’s called microblading, and we offer it to all of our patients that want to achieve beautiful eyebrows.  This technique has been big in Europe and Asia for years, and is finally gaining the popularity it deserves in the US.

What is Microblading?

It doesn’t matter if you want your eyebrows feathered and arched or straight and bold, with microblading you can get any look you desire. Unlike the sometimes Sharpie effect of permanent makeup, microblading is more of an embroidery that looks just like real hairs. Pigment is implanted under your skin with a manual handheld tool (microblading pen) instead of a machine and hair-like strokes are drawn to mimic natural hairs in the brows.  Therefore, the results look natural and beautiful.  Even though it's not as deep as the regular tattoo, it's still a tattoo because pigment is implanted under the skin.

Who is a good candidate for Microblading?

Microblading is perfect for those that want to fully reconstruct the way their eyebrows look.  It is also great for people that have gaps in their brows, or those that have over plucked their brows and want a more filled in look.  Another great candidate is someone that desires an arched look.  Our technician can draw the eyebrows any shape they want while still maintaining a natural look.

What should I expect?

The whole process takes about two hours to complete because it is such a meticulous technique for the technician. However, this does depend on the person’s condition and their desired look.  Before microblading begins a topical numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort of the area followed by a liquid anesthetic.  The first hour the technician will draw the shape in with a removal pencil which is actually the longest part as well as the most important.

Will it hurt?

Due to the application of numbing cream and liquid anesthetic patients usually experience little to no pain during treatment.  Some feel more than others, but for the most part people describe treatment as “light tiny scratches.”

How long do the results last?

The effect of microblading lasts between one and three years before it starts to fade making it the best semi-permanent eyebrow shaping option out on the market today.

How to prepare

To prepare avoid blood thinners, aspirin, and alcohol.  These make your skin thinner and more likely to bleed.  It is also best to avoid sweaty workouts and washing your face with water.  This is because the freshly bladed brows need to be protected from moisture.  Brows will look the darkest the first week, but shortly fade to a more natural look.  There is no downtime for this procedure, and one may only experience a slight redness or swelling.
