Of course, when patients get Botox and other dermal fillers they hope that these injections last as long as possible. Unfortunately, these forms of anti-aging medicine are not permanent. Typically for Botox, we recommend maintenance around every 3 months in order to maintain your desired look. However, some patients don’t need as much maintenance as others. In fact, there are easy ways to help make Botox last longer. Read below to learn about all the ways you can make your dermal fillers and Botox last longer in order to maintain an ageless look.
Sun Protection
Many do not know that sun exposure can affect how long your injections last. When patients are exposed to a large number of UV rays the neurotoxins of the Botox deteriorate faster. Therefore, we always recommend our patients use as much sun protection as they can. We encourage patients to cover up when outside with accessories such as a hat, or sunglasses. Also, use a great sunscreen that is long-lasting and will help protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
Eating Healthy
It’s true when they say a healthy diet can affect ALL aspects of your life. It affects the health of your skin, and if done right will make your Botox last longer. Stay away from packaged and processed food, and limit the amount of sugar you take in to make Botox last longer than usual.
Make Sure You Keep Up With Botox Maintenance
As stated earlier, we recommend patients schedule their Botox maintenance every three months. This allows the muscles to become weaker, and recurrent treatments are useful as they may train targeted muscles to respond neurotoxins for longer periods of time.
Don’t Have Botox Too Frequently
You absolutely need to have your Botox Maintenance, however, there is such a thing as too much Botox. This is where it is extremely important to choose the right doctor. We actually just had a patient who came to our practice after receiving 85 units one week, and a week after was given another 90 because she said the Botox wasn’t working. This is way too much Botox in such a short time span, and any qualified doctor would know this. Too much Botox will cause your muscles to become resistant. Pick a skilled doctor who knows their stuff, and space out your treatments the recommended three months.
Skincare
Lastly, skincare is important to prevent skin cancer, maintain an ageless look, and to get Botox to last longer. Our patients that moisturize, drink water every day, and stay out of the sun find that their Botox last much longer than others. Drinking water is extremely important because it will enhance the water-absorption effect of hyaluronic-based fillers.
