WHAT IS VBEAM LASER?
Vbeam is most commonly used to treat rosacea, but it can also treat pigmented scars, spider veins, broken capillaries, stretch marks, birthmarks, hyperpigmentation, and other forms of red, brown, or purple facial pigmentation. Pulsed dye lasers, like Vbeam, are so gentle that they’ve been used for decades to remove red birthmarks, like port-wine stains, on infants and small children with fair to medium skin tones.
WHAT TECHNOLOGY IS USED FOR THE VBEAM LASER?
Vbeam is the one of the most advanced pulsed dye lasers (PDL) on the market. The Candela Vbeam produces an intense, but gentle, burst of light that selectively destroys the blood vessels of your spider veins without damaging the surrounding tissue. After laser treatment, the surrounding tissue is left intact. The Vbeam can also treat rosacea, leg veins, scars, warts, stretch marks, hemangiomas, and red birthmarks. It does so quickly and conveniently with virtually no pain. To learn more about Candela Vbeam, click here.
IS VBEAM RIGHT FOR ME?
The Candela Vbeam is gentle but effective on light skin; hence, it is not recommended for patients who are darkly pigmented. Because of the increase in skin pigment, the laser will be less effective on damaging the blood vessels of the spider veins or other vascular lesions being treated.
The depth of penetration of the Candela Vbeam is limited to vessels about 1.5mm in depth. Therefore, vessels deeper than this may not respond to the therapy. Additionally, blue vessels may not respond as well as red ones. It is the best treatment option for rosacea with results lasting 3 - 5 years. Improvement can be seen immediately after treatment.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Without being evaluated, it is difficult to determine how many Vbeam treatments are needed to achieve your desired results. However, for enlarged blood vessels and redness (rosacea), 2 - 4 treatments with VBeam spaced 1 month apart is typically recommended. It is to be noted that this redness can return over time and additional treatments may be needed to maintain results.
HOW MUCH DOES VBEAM TREATMENT COST?
The cost of Vbeam treatment starts at $550 per treatment. There are a variety of factors that determine overall price.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT BEFORE AND AFTER TREATMENT?
Before Vbeam treatment, it is recommended that patients avoid:
- Sun exposure
- Tanning
- Use of products that cause photosensitivity
The Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD), which is built into the laser system, delivers a short burst or spray of cryogen just prior to the laser pulse being delivered. The DCD has been instrumental in reducing pain associated with treatment, as well as reducing the possibility of blister/scab formation. In some instances, a topical or local anesthetic can be used if requested. The feeling of the Vbeam laser pulse has been described as the area being snapped by a rubber band or having a slight stinging sensation.
Following laser treatment, the area may continue to sting slightly or feel warm like a sunburn. If a large area is to be treated, anesthesia may be used. Applying ice packs post-operatively can alleviate any discomfort experienced during the procedure.
IS IT SAFE?
Yes, laser therapy with the Candel Vbeam is completely safe. However, with any laser therapy, there is a possibility of adverse effects. The treated area may be hyperpigmented or appear darker after the bruising/red discoloration heals. Normal skin color typically returns within 6 months after laser therapy. Scarring is a risk with the use of any laser; however, the Candela Vbeam has had no reported incidence of scarring. If the post-treatment skin care instructions are not followed, this can increase the chance of scarring. The treated area may show a slight depression after the laser treatments. This depression usually resolves within a few months.
TESTIMONIALS
Dr. Dima and her staff were kind, helpful, and communicative. I went to get some acne scars taken care of with Vbeam and I’m very satisfied with the results. Dr. Dima is very experienced and knew exactly what she was doing, and it clearly shows.
