WHAT IS LIP AUGMENTATION?
Lip augmentation is a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure that can give you fuller, plumper, and more shapely lips to enhance the look of the entire face. Lip injections allow you to achieve dramatic results without having to go under the knife. The results can either be subtle and gradual or instant, depending on technique.
WHAT ARE LIP AUGMENTATION TECHNIQUES?
Nowadays, women and men crave fuller-looking lips. Listed are several methods that Dr. Dima at WellMedica utilizes to achieve these goals and create the appearance of fuller-looking lips. From silicon injections and hyaluronic acid fillers to fat injections, Botox®, and even thread lift, at WellMedica, we can focus on reshaping, adding volume, and simply rejuvenating the area to reduce the appearance of lip wrinkles.
“Lip Fillers”
Turn up the volume in your pout with lip fillers! Bring back your lips' lost volume with fillers, the safest nonsurgical treatment to cosmetically enhance, shape, and add volume to your lips. Lip fillers can also help the surrounding mouth wrinkles (pucker lines).
“Lip Flip”
You want your lips to look a little fuller, but you just don’t feel ready for filler. The Lip Flip may be the perfect dress rehearsal to a future lip enhancement with filler. This recently popular technique can be done as a stand-alone service.
The goal of the Lip Flip is to avert your upper lip, subtly allowing for a fuller and smoother appearance. A tiny amount of Botox® or neuromodulator is superficially placed into the muscle near the lip border. This muscle, called the orbicularis oris, is responsible for the pursing action of the mouth. When relaxed, it allows your upper lip to softly flip upward and outward, creating an illusion of a fuller lip by exposing more of the pink surface area of the lip. This effect makes lips without filler look instantly fuller and gives an extra flip to a full lip enhancement.
“Lip Pop”
Lip Pop is the combination of using both neuromodulators and fillers to achieve a fuller, plumper appearance to the lips.
“Lip Thread Lift”
The lip thread lifting facial rejuvenation technique is a popular procedure at WellMedica. It’s often called a “lunchtime lift”. Though it’s possible to achieve a subtle result with filler, there’s an alternative treatment gaining popularity in the cosmetic enhancement world called the lip thread lift. It’s a nonsurgical procedure that uses small, dissolvable threads to help boost collagen in the lips and smooth out fine lines around the mouth.
“Silicone Lip Injection”
If you are looking for a permanent alternative to yearly dermal lip filler, silicone injections may be the answer. Dr. Dima has been doing silicone lip injections for over 20 years. Silicone is an alternative to Restylane® Silk and Restylane® Kysse for lip augmentation. Silicone injections have been used for over 60 years. The type of silicone used for this treatment is very important. Dr. Dima only uses the FDA-approved Silikon 1000 (purified polydimethylsiloxane) by Alcon. It was developed for and approved by the FDA for use in the treatment of retinal detachment and is used off-label as a permanent filling agent.
There is a very specific technique that must be adhered to when using silicone as a permanent lip filler. This is to ensure that product migration does not occur and that the process of neocollagenesis takes place properly. Because the body’s inflammatory response to the silicone results in augmentation, it is important to ensure that the potential candidate does not have any autoimmune or infection issues.
IS IT RIGHT FOR ME?
If you are dissatisfied with lips that are thin or flat, lip augmentation may be right for you. Typically a good candidate for lip enhancement is someone who has:
- Exposed gums lines when smiling.
- Thin lips that disappear upon smiling.
- Full lips but is looking for extra volume.
- Full lips but wants to reshape their lips.
- Asymmetries between the upper and lower lips.
- Pucker lines (smokers' lines) around the mouth.
HOW MUCH DOES LIP AUGMENTATION TREATMENT COST?
Lip augmentation procedure cost depends on a variety of factors starting from $150 for a lip flip to $750 for lip fillers and up. To ensure that your lip augmentation procedure is affordable, we accept a variety of payment methods including special financing plans.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT BEFORE AND AFTER TREATMENT?
Lip augmentation requires no pre-testing, but you should take a few precautions before being treated. Before any injections, it is recommended to:
- Avoid the use of Aspirin, NSAIDS, ginkgo biloba, garlic supplements, green tea, flax oil, cod liver oil, vitamins A and E, and essential fatty acids for up to 1 week pre- and post-injection, as they will increase your risk of bruising.
- Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before (or after) your treatment to avoid extra bruising. You may take Arnica tablets 2-3 days prior to your injection to reduce the risk of bruising.
- Do not apply products that are potentially irritating for 2 -3 days before and after treatment. Examples include tretinoin/Retin-A, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and hydroquinone.
- Inform Dr. Dima if you have a history of cold sores to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment.
- Inform Dr. Dima and staff if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Immediately after your treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness, and an itching sensation in the treated areas. This is a normal result of the injections. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. When it comes to lip augmentation, the swelling may last longer. Some patients experience swelling for about a week.
IS IT SAFE?
Lip augmentation is a popular cosmetic procedure. It is not entirely new, and it is very safe. The procedure, based on the technique, is minimally invasive and has very few side effects – most of which vanish after a few days. We specialize in bringing the best results from your natural beauty using quick, easy, and affordable treatments. Schedule your consultation with Dr. Dima to determine which technique is best for you.
